Schizophrenia and substance use disorder (SUD) often go hand in hand, sharing genetic and neurobiological factors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"sod-quote sod-quote-8d9ccf wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>The comorbidity of schizophrenia and substance use disorders is not an exception &#8211; it\u2019s rather a common reality.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"rea-main rea-page-default\"><div class=\"rea-page-default__wrapper\"><div class=\"\"><div class=\"entry-content\">\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-85a73830f8a659933f219b69f33e6ca7 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#8d9ccf;font-size:26px\"><strong>The essential role of family<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When schizophrenia and substance use disorder (SUD) intersect, the <strong>complexity of managing both conditions<\/strong> increases, making it difficult for individuals to get the right care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This &#8220;<strong>collision of complexity<\/strong>&#8221; often leads to poorer health outcomes, especially for those dealing with severe and long-term mental illnesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s why <strong>support and understanding from loved ones are vital at every stage<\/strong>. Family and friends play a crucial role in walking this journey alongside individuals with schizophrenia and SUD, <strong>helping them find stability and hope<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even when a loved one seems uncooperative or lacks insight, it doesn\u2019t mean progress is impossible. Consistent <strong>CARE AND COMPASSION TRULY MAKE A DIFFERENCE<\/strong>, bringing both healing and hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"border-square has-background wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background-color:#d8dcef\"><strong style=\"font-size:26px;\">Reframing addiction: a treatable brain disorder<\/strong><br><br>For much of history, substance use disorder was misrepresented, often viewed as a moral failing rather than a medical condition. Those struggling were <strong>unfairly labeled<\/strong> with terms like \u201caddict,\u201d <strong>reinforcing stigma and shame<\/strong>.<br><br>Thanks to advances in neuroscience, we now understand that substance use disorder is a <strong>complex brain disorder<\/strong>.<br><br>Substance use disorders (SUDs) are closely linked creating a <strong>twoway relationship<\/strong>: people with mental health conditions may turn to drugs and using substances can increase the likelihood of developing mental health disorders.<br><br>This occurs because <strong>substances affect the same brain circuits involved in mental health regulation<\/strong>.<br><br>Although <strong>SUD<\/strong> is a chronic, progressive illness that can lead to relapses, the most important fact is that it <strong>is treatable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"sod_highlight py-4\"><div class=\"rea-main rea-page-default\"><div class=\"rea-page-default__wrapper my-0\"><div class=\"entry-content\">\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-17c3eabf1421b32ddac09248c6f92bf5 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#8d9ccf;font-size:26px\"><strong>New advances in treatment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recent studies offer hope. In an observational study, scientists followed individuals with schizophrenia who also struggled with cocaine addiction. Each patient received <strong>tailored antipsychotic treatment based on their needs<\/strong>.
